What is gswap?
gswap is peer-to-peer snowboard and ski rental for the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe. Rent boards and skis from locals near you, or list your own gear and earn when you're not using it.
Can I book a rental right now?
Not yet. Our first month is hosts-first: rentals are paused while we build the host community. Renters can browse listings and message hosts with questions, and booking opens soon. Hosts can sign up, list gear, and set up payouts now.
How do I rent gear?
Browse listings near you, choose your dates, and book and pay through gswap once booking is open. You'll coordinate pickup with the host through in-app messaging.
How do I list my gear?
After creating an account, add photos, a description, your daily price, a damage deposit, and availability. Once your listing is reviewed and approved, renters in your area can see it. Set up payouts in Settings so you're ready for your first rental.
What is the founding host program?
Create a listing by December 1, 2026 and, once it's approved, you pay 0% commission on your rentals through May 31, 2027. Eligibility is based on when the listing is created, not when it's approved.
What is Gswap credit?
Founding hosts get $10 to spend on rentals, once per person, when their first listing is approved. Your balance shows on your profile. At checkout, switch on "Apply Gswap credit" to take it off your total. It covers up to Gswap's fees on a booking (any unused credit stays in your account), expires at the end of the season (May 31, 2027), has no cash value, and can't be transferred.
How does the damage deposit work?
Each listing has a damage deposit set by the host. Shortly before pickup, a hold for that amount is placed on the renter's card. The hold is released after a clean return, and the deposit is only charged if the host files a damage claim and gswap approves it.
How do payments and fees work?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Renters pay the daily rate plus a 5% service fee and tax at checkout. Hosts pay a 10% commission and keep 90%; founding hosts and the SNOWPALS promo waive the host commission only.
When do hosts get paid?
Host payouts are released after the rental is completed, not at booking. Funds go to your Stripe Connect account, and withdrawals to your bank typically arrive in 2–3 business days.
Do I need to verify my ID?
No. ID verification through Stripe is optional. Hosts and renters who complete it earn a verified badge on their profile.
Where is gswap available?
We're starting in the Bay Area and the Lake Tahoe corridor, with more regions as the community grows.
What if there's an issue with my rental?
Report it in the app from the booking. The other party has 48 hours to respond, and gswap reviews the handoff photos and messages to reach a fair decision. You can also email our support team.
