gswap ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using gswap, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account or use our Service, we may collect the following personal information:

  • Name and email address
  • Phone number
  • Profile photo
  • Payment information (processed securely through Stripe)
  • Government-issued ID, collected and stored by Stripe Identity when you choose to verify
  • Physical address or location data

Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service:

  • Device information (device type, operating system, unique device identifiers)
  • Push notification tokens: if you allow notifications in the iOS app, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for your device so we can send booking, message, and account alerts. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
  • Log data (access times, pages viewed, app crashes)
  • Website analytics: our website uses Vercel Analytics to measure page views and performance in aggregate
  • Advertising measurement: our website uses the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API to measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to sign-ups and listings. This sends Meta page views, those events, cookies set by Meta, your IP address and browser, and a hashed (scrambled) copy of your email address and account ID. You can limit this with your browser's tracking protection or your Facebook ad settings.
  • Location data (with your permission, to show nearby gear listings)
  • Usage patterns and preferences

User-Generated Content

We collect content you provide, including:

  • Gear listings and photos
  • Messages between users
  • Reviews and ratings
  • Profile information

Identity Verification and Biometric Data

Identity verification is optional. If you choose to verify, Stripe Identity collects a photo of your government-issued ID and a selfie, and compares the selfie to your ID photo on our behalf. Stripe processes that biometric information under its own privacy policy. We receive the verification result (for example, verified or not verified) and basic details Stripe confirms, not your selfie, ID images, or any biometric data.

gswap itself does not use facial recognition. Profile photos and gear photos you upload are used for display in the Service, and we do not extract biometric identifiers from them.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
  • Process transactions and send related information
  • Support optional identity verification through Stripe and prevent fraud
  • Enable communication between users
  • Send you technical notices, updates, and support messages
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities
  • Personalize and improve your experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

Information Sharing

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With other users: Your profile information, listings, and reviews are visible to other users
  • Service providers: We share data with third parties who help us operate the Service (e.g., Stripe for payments, Firebase for infrastructure)
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Deletion: Delete your account at any time from Settings in the app or on the website. This removes your profile, listings, saved cards, and payout account; we keep transaction records as required by law and to resolve disputes. You can also email us to request deletion.
  • Opt-out: Opt out of marketing communications
  • Location: Disable location services through your device settings
  • Notifications: Turn off push notifications through your device settings

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will delete that information promptly.

Third-Party Services

Our Service integrates with third-party services that have their own privacy policies:

  • Stripe: For payment processing, payouts and optional identity verification (Stripe Identity)
  • Firebase (Google): For authentication, database, file storage, and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)
  • Vercel: For website hosting and Vercel Analytics on the website
  • Meta: For measuring our Facebook and Instagram ads (Meta Pixel and Conversions API)
  • Apple Sign-In: For authentication
  • Resend: For transactional email (booking and account notifications)
