Safety Guidelines
Your safety is our priority. Follow these guidelines for a secure experience.
Meeting Up Safely
When meeting to pick up or return gear, always prioritize your personal safety.
- Choose public locations: Meet at busy, well-lit public places like coffee shops, ski resort parking lots, or shopping centers
- Bring a friend: When possible, bring someone with you to meetups, especially for first-time exchanges
- Meet during daylight: Schedule pickups and returns during daytime hours when visibility is best
- Share your plans: Let a friend or family member know where you're going and who you're meeting
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off, it's okay to cancel or reschedule the meetup
Gear Inspection
Always thoroughly inspect gear before accepting a rental. Document condition to protect both parties.
- Check for damage: Inspect boards and skis for cracks, delamination, edge damage, and binding issues
- Test bindings: Ensure bindings lock properly and release mechanisms work correctly
- Take photos: Document the gear's condition with timestamped photos at pickup and return
- Match the listing: Verify the gear matches what was advertised in the listing photos and description
- Note existing wear: Point out any existing scratches or wear to the owner before your rental begins
Communication Best Practices
Keep all communication within the gswap app to maintain a record and stay protected.
- Use in-app messaging: All conversations should happen through gswap's messaging system for your protection
- Be responsive: Reply to messages promptly, especially when coordinating pickup and return times
- Be clear about expectations: Discuss gear condition, rental terms, and meetup logistics before confirming
- Avoid sharing personal info: Don't share your home address, personal phone number, or social media until you're comfortable
- Report suspicious behavior: If someone asks you to communicate off-platform or seems suspicious, report them to gswap
Payment Safety
Always use gswap's secure payment system. Never pay outside the app.
- Pay through gswap only: All payments should go through our secure Stripe-powered system
- Never pay in cash: Cash transactions aren't protected and can't be disputed if issues arise
- Avoid external payment apps: Don't use Venmo, Zelle, or other apps—you lose buyer protection
- Understand the deposit: Security deposits protect owners from damage and are refunded after successful returns
- Review before booking: Check the total cost including any fees before confirming your rental
Reporting Issues
If something goes wrong, we're here to help. Report issues promptly so we can assist.
- Report immediately: If gear is damaged, missing, or not as described, report within 24 hours of pickup
- Document everything: Take photos and keep records of all communication related to the issue
- Use the incident system: File a dispute through the app to initiate our resolution process
- Stay professional: Keep communication respectful even during disputes—it helps us resolve issues faster
- Contact support: Reach out to safety@gswap.fyi for urgent safety concerns
Tips for Gear Owners
Protect yourself and your equipment when listing gear on gswap.
- Verify renter identity: Use the QR code verification system at pickup and return
- Set appropriate deposits: Choose a security deposit that reflects your gear's value
- Be accurate in listings: Honest descriptions prevent disputes and build your reputation
- Check renter reviews: Look at a renter's history and ratings before accepting bookings
- Maintain your gear: Well-maintained equipment is safer and leads to better reviews
Tips for Renters
Get the best rental experience by being a responsible renter.
- Know your skill level: Rent gear appropriate for your experience—don't overestimate your abilities
- Read reviews carefully: Check owner ratings and read previous renter feedback
- Respect the gear: Treat rented equipment as if it were your own
- Return on time: Late returns can affect the next renter and your reputation
- Report damage honestly: Accidents happen—report them promptly rather than trying to hide them

- Leave immediately if you feel threatened or unsafe
- Call 911 if you're in immediate danger
